KfW Bankengruppe evening event

KfW continues the tradition of inviting delegates to a reception at its Berlin branch on the evening preceding the Congress. The exclusive setting gives Congress participants an opportunity to hold informal initial discussions.

Political lunch with Leo Dautzenberg, spokesperson on financial policy,  CDU/CSU parliamentary group

Leo Dautzenberg, who has been a member of the Bundestag since 1998, was the parliamentary representative of the CDU/CSU in the Financial Committee from 2004 to 2009 and has been its financial policy spokesman since 2009. At the parliamentary level, he was involved in the various rescue packages and measures during the grand coalition and has also played a role since 2009. He will respond to questions on the current status of the coalition measures to promote the SME sector and to provide support for the banks. The discussion will be moderated by member of the KPMG Managing Board Christine Kreidl.

Wine colloquium with Dr Volker Wissing, FDP, Chairman of the German parliament’s Financial Committee, in discussion with Klaus Friedrich Otto, editor-in-chief of “Zeitschrift für das gesamte Kreditwesen”

Retrospective and lessons from the financial market crisis

Dr Volker Wissing, a lawyer, has been a member of parliament since 2004; his constituency is in a leading German wine-producing region. Since 2009 he has chaired the German parliament’s Financial Committee, the main committee dealing with legislation in the areas of taxation, regulation and finance. A high-level exchange with him on matters concerning the role and mandate of politics in the financial crisis as part of a wine colloquium moderated by Klaus Friedrich Otto promises to be both instructive and entertaining.

Chill-out and get-together

From 21.30 Congress participants can bring the first day of the Congress to a close in an informal “chill-out and get-together” with a cocktail bar. Political breakfast with Hans-Joachim Otto, FDP

Congress Day 2 starts at 8.15 with a Political Breakfast. Hans-Joachim Otto, FDP, parliamentary state secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, responds to Congress participants‘ questions on the government‘s economic policy, particularly regarding SME promotion, corporate finance and securitisation.The discussion will be moderated by Clifford Chance partner Dr Michael Weller.

Tour of Berlin

A two-hour tour of Berlin’s many different features – Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate, the Victory Column and the Ku’damm. See Berlin past and present from the comfort of a bus. There is enough time to take part in the visit to the Reichstag after the city tour.

Visit to the Reichstag

A one-hour guided tour will give you first-hand insights into the fascinating architecture of this building, which is charged with historical symbolism for Germany. The tour will leave from the Radisson Blu Hotel at 16.45. At the end of the tour you will be taken directly to the investors’ evening.

THE STORY OF BERLIN – guided museum tour ending with a light snack

THE STORY OF BERLIN – the capital’s interactive exhibition with an original nuclear shelter. Visitors are taken on a tour through 800 years of Berlin’s history. A particular feature of the exhibition is the nuclear shelter built two storeys below the Kurfürstendamm-Karee in 1973 to protect the city’s population. To round off the visit, “currywurst and champagne” will be served in the Radisson Blu Hotel.
